The Ache of the Dry Season
This feeling of being forgotten is deeply human, but it is not final. For the prophet Isaiah declares a divine truth that shatters our weariness, giving us a vision for the journey:
“But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
This promise isn’t for people who have it all together. It’s for those of us who are utterly, completely worn out.
Wilderness or Workshop?
For most of my life, waiting felt like a Wilderness – barren, silent, and endless. It was an accidental detour on my journey, a space I would endure before God could finally get back to the good stuff.
But in the past year, the Holy Spirit has been shifting my perspective. In God’s eyes, the waiting room is not a forgotten place; it is a Sacred Workshop.
This time is not wasted; it is precisely where God is:
- Forming character over comfort.
- Refining our motives over our outcomes.
- Quietly preparing us for the breakthrough we’ve prayed for.
There is something sacred about the seasons when life feels paused. The ache in our heart for what is still unseen is actually revealing what is truly inside of us, stretching our faith, and deepening our dependence on the only One who is reliable.
What is God Doing in the Workshop?
Our greatest model is not a breakthrough, but a transformation. Think back to the very beginning. In Genesis 2:7, God didn’t just assemble a human; He breathed the breath of life into Adam. That powerful, creating breath still moves today. When God breathes into your waiting, He doesn’t just fill a void; He brings life to what is dead, strengthens what is weary, and restores what has been lost.
This process is always aimed at one purpose: our transformation into the image and likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). Jesus himself knew the wait—He surrendered His will in the Garden, trusting the Father’s timing perfectly.
The Workshop forces a complete surrender of our calendar to God’s eternal purpose. It is the process where we lay down our urgency and pick up His patience, allowing the Holy Spirit to chip away at the old self so the new creation—reflecting Christ’s humility, love, and faith—can emerge.
What the Wait Reveals About God
The struggle of waiting often threatens to hide the greatness of God. If you feel forgotten or worn out today, be encouraged. Your waiting is not a delay; it is a divine lens revealing these three profound truths about His character:
| The Lie You Feel | The Divine Truth | Scripture Focus |
| My exhaustion is too great for God. He is distant, and my struggle has run me dry. | He is Powerfully Present. God’s strength is endless. Your exhaustion is the exact moment He is ready to pour His never-ending power into you. | Isaiah 40:28-29 |
| My waiting is wasted time or a punishment. God is delaying my progress, and my life is on pause. | He is Purposefully Intentional. Your waiting is a Sacred Workshop. God is intentionally using this time to perfectly shape your character into the image of Jesus Christ. | Romans 8:29 |
| I have to generate the motivation and strength to get through this. If I try hard enough, I will succeed. | He is the Source of Sustaining Life. Your strength is a gift of life from God. He is the active Breath of New Creation, replacing your weakness with His life. | Genesis 2:7 |
As you reflect on His Word today, may you sense His powerful whisper in the silence: “I am working, even here. Let Me breathe Christ’s life into your waiting so you may be truly refined by My glory.”
