Three Radical Messages on How to Wait

Moving from stagnant waiting to spirit-led preparation

Last week, we talked about reframing our season of waiting from a Wilderness into a Sacred Workshop. We established that God is doing deep character work while we wait.

But knowing that the waiting is a “Workshop” is only half the battle. The other half is knowing what to do with your hands and your heart while you’re in it.

I confess, I’ve spent months feeling stuck in God’s waiting room—obsessed with the closed door. But lately, in the quiet, the Holy Spirit has been shifting my focus from the outcome to the person. He hasn’t just given me instructions; He’s given me three deep-seated messages directly tied to God’s nature that show us how to be active, not passive, in the wait.

If you feel exhausted by the weight of ‘not yet’ and the pressure to keep up, stop and listen. The Holy Spirit is inviting you out of the rush and into His rest. It is time to stop viewing your waiting season as wasted time and start seeing it as holy preparation. Open your heart to this divine exchange today:

1. Surrender Your Calendar to My Purpose.

I’m a planner. I love a neatly outlined timeline. The waiting season has revealed how tightly I hold onto my own calendar, viewing any delay as a cosmic interruption of my perfectly laid out plan. This urgency is rooted in anxiety, not trust.

The truth is that God’s waiting is never wasted time. It’s always an invitation to submit our timeline to His endless wisdom.

  • Trust My timing over your own sense of urgency.
  • Release your grip on the “when” and focus on the “Who.”
  • Relabel every “delay” on your schedule as intentional development.

This is a time to lay down your urgency—that breathless need to rush ahead—so you can truly learn God’s enduring pace. The Bible promises that if we wait on the Lord, we will ”walk and not faint.” It’s a call to a sustainable, steady rhythm, not a frantic sprint. Let’s start relabeling those empty spaces on our calendars. What we call a ‘delay,’ God calls ‘development.’ When we trade our rush for His pace, we find peace in the waiting.


2. Your Transformation is My Breakthrough.

For months, my prayers sounded like this: “God, open the door! Please just give me the job/the answer/the blessing!” I was obsessing over the door—the real outcome itself.

But what if the waiting isn’t primarily about the door? What if it’s about the person who needs to walk through it?

  • Stop praying for only a door to open. That focuses entirely on a noticeable outcome outside of you.
  •  Start focusing on the person who will walk through it. 

The waiting is less of an obstacle to your blessing and more of a preparation for maturity. God is doing a deep, internal work to make you ready, resilient, and equipped to steward the purpose He has for you. The breakthrough isn’t the event; it’s the new you.


3. Exchange Your Weariness for My Strength.

Let’s be real. Waiting is exhausting. It takes effort to maintain hope, fight off doubt, and keep putting one foot in front of the other. The temptation is to gather up our own courage and willpower.

But the good news is that our weariness isn’t a sign of failure; it’s the exact qualification for receiving God’s power. He is the Source of Sustaining Life.

  •  Stop trying to find strength yourself. Trying to generate your own hope is a limited resource that always leads to burnout.
  •  Start actively waiting for the Lord, trusting that your weariness is the qualification for His unlimited power to carry you. 

His power isn’t meant to complement our strength; it’s meant to replace our weakness. When we surrender our exhaustion to Him, we find His unlimited grace (Isaiah 40:29). This isn’t passive waiting; it’s active dependence. It’s the most powerful action we can take. Choose to believe the God, who is both Sovereign and Faithful.
