“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” — 2 Corinthians 9:15
Did Mary know? In that quiet moment of surrender, did she realize she was carrying a gift that would breathe life back into the entire world?
Before we look at her story, I want you to think about the best gift you’ve ever received. I’m not talking about the prettiest wrapping or the highest price tag. I’m talking about the gift that made you feel known. Maybe it was a word of encouragement when your business was failing, or a sacrifice someone made when you were barely holding yourself together.
Here is the hard reality: even the most beautiful earthly gifts eventually fade. Flowers wilt, tools wear out, and the “high” of the moment passes. But deep down, we all ache for something permanent—an anchor that holds when life tries to pull us under.
Scripture tells us that this gift actually exists. But it’s not a “thing.” That gift is a Person.
It’s Not a Rulebook, It’s a Relationship
Jesus is God’s perfect answer for every empty place within us. He isn’t a rulebook to follow, a religion to manage, or a self-improvement project for you to finish. He is a Savior.
When we feel overwhelmed, God doesn’t just send us a pep talk or a set of instructions on how to work our way up to Him. He came down to us. He wrapped Himself in flesh and stepped right into our mess, our stress, and our chaos. When you feel alone, remember: God didn’t send a message; He sent Himself.
Why We Call It “Indescribable”
Paul calls this gift “indescribable” because it touches the places in us that words can’t reach.
- How do you explain a grace that chases you when you run?
- How do you explain a mercy that covers the parts of your story you’d rather hide?
You can’t. You can only receive it.
So many of us spend our lives with clenched fists, trying to hold every broken piece together. We exhaust ourselves trying to be “enough” or trying to earn a love that has already been given. But God isn’t looking for your resume. He is simply inviting you to open your hands.
The Gift That Stays
Everything else in our lives shifts—our seasons, our emotions, our energy, and our relationships. But Jesus remains steady. He doesn’t grow old, He doesn’t break, and He never runs out.
If you have Jesus, you are not empty—even when you feel poured out. If you have Jesus, you are not alone—even when the house is silent. He is the life our hearts have been craving all along.
A Moment to Breathe
Today, I invite you to pause. Not the “I should be stronger by now” version of you, but the real you. The tired places. The questions. The pressure points.
Open your hands. Let go of the weight you weren’t designed to carry and let Jesus be the gift your soul needs today.
A Prayer for Your Heart: Lord, I come to You with open hands. You are the one true gift. I lay down my need to be perfect and my fear of the future. I release the burdens I’ve tried to carry alone, and I rest in Your strength. You are my peace. Amen.
Reflection for the Day:
Is there a specific burden you’ve been trying to maintain a “polished” version of yourself, earn God’s approval, or “work your way up to Him,” or fix everyone else’s needs while your own heart goes ignored lately?
What would happen if you simply handed it to the One who already holds you?
